A Memorable Day at Albury Vineyard

In October, a group of young adults from Year CG had the delightful opportunity to visit Albury Vineyard, a gem nestled in the heart of Surrey Hills. This visit was all about providing valuable work experience for young adults, fostering their independence, and building connections in a vibrant and unique environment.

The Importance of Work Experience

For many young adults with learning disabilities or additional support needs, gaining work experience can be a transformative experience. It helps to build confidence, teach valuable skills, and nurture a sense of responsibility and independence. When Albury Vineyard graciously opened its doors, we knew it would be a fantastic learning experience.

A Warm Welcome

Upon arrival, our young adults were greeted by Nick Wenman, the owner of Albury Vineyard, whose warm hospitality set the tone for the day. Nick, along with his General Manager Lucy Letley and Estate Manager Alex Valsecchi, provided an inviting atmosphere that immediately made everyone feel welcome. Their enthusiasm for the vineyard was contagious, and our young adults were eager to dive into the day’s activities.

Hands-On Experience

The highlight of the day was the hands-on work experience in the vineyard. Guided by Alex, our young adults participated in a ‘green harvest,’ a crucial task as harvest time approaches. This year, due to the unpredictability of British weather, some grapes were not ripening as expected. To ensure the remaining fruit had the best chance to ripen fully, our young adults were tasked with removing less ripe bunches from the vines.

Looking Ahead

As the day came to a close, we were filled with gratitude for the warm welcome and the opportunity to learn at Albury Vineyard. The team made our young adults feel like part of the family, emphasising the importance of community support and inclusion. Our heartfelt thanks go to Nick, Lucy, Alex, and the entire Albury team for making this experience possible.

Thank you, Albury Vineyard, for believing in our young adults and for your commitment to making a difference in the community. Here’s to many more fruitful collaborations in the future!
