Working for halow will allow me to make a difference to someone’s life, which is not something that is attainable in a commercial role. No matter how small my contribution I will gain an immense sense of satisfaction in my job, and knowing that I have contributed to helping someone is hugely motivating, and to know I can help to provide to the continued success of halow project.

I joined halow in 2013 as Supported living buddy. I wanted to be in a job role that was rewarding and had opportunities for me to grow as I wanted to pursue a career in health and social care and halow seemed the perfect place to do that. 7 Years later, I am now the Deputy Manager of Care services, overseeing 7 Supported living houses, over 40 members of staff and a 1:1 buddy service. Over the years, seeing the Y/P we support achieve goals and gain independence in their lives, has been the biggest reward the job could offer and I look forward to continuing my career and working with some of the best colleagues I have ever worked with.

Along the way, I’ve developed a strong understanding of the different programmes we offer and the real impact they have on the people we support.

As Head of Department, I oversee a range of community-based programmes that focus on building confidence, independence, gaining skills for life and creating meaningful opportunities— so that every learner can develop at their own pace and move towards their personal goals.

I’m proud to lead a passionate team who are dedicated to making a positive difference every day.

I now lead Building Futures, our community-based programme focused on informal education and life skills. From September 2026, I’m delighted to also be leading Building Destinations, a new work skills programme. This will support learners in building the confidence and gaining skills they need to take their next steps into the workplace. It’s an exciting time, and I can’t wait to see what the first cohort achieves.

A Reason To Get Up, offers meaningful daytime activities. It’s great to see the variety of opportunities our adults get involved in, from Guildford in Bloom, art exhibitions and Surrey Hills Radio take over.

I am passionate about all of these programmes and I see first-hand the difference they make to the lives of the people we support. It is a joy to be a part of all their stories

After working in roles across retail, immigration and FMCG and throughout all of these roles I had a desire to make a difference to the lives of others in whatever capacity my work allowed, so when the opportunity arose to contribute to halow’s mission and ethos it felt like a great fit. Since joining, I have been able to formally develop my knowledge and skills and now oversee our people practices as HR Manager. There is no better feeling than knowing the work I undertake with my team allows our staff to make an even bigger difference to the lives of the young adults we support.

I have witnessed many changes in that time and seen the charity grow and develop to the many services and service users we have today

The social activities programme has evolved over the years offering a wide range of activities that at their core have the best interests of those taking part. Many of the service users we support I have known for between 10-6 years and as a result I have seen a real impact halow has made on their livesII ddidn’t expect to have been at halow for so long, but it is my belief in providing continued opportunities for the people we support that keeps me going.
