Building Futures Summer Steps Challenge 2026

This summer, our Building Futures programme (BFG) is once again lacing up their walking shoes for a challenge that’s about so much more than steps. The Building Futures Summer Steps Challenge 2026 is back, with a fundraising target of £2,000 to support their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).

Last year’s Summer Steps Walk showed just how powerful this challenge can be. Walking from Old Portsmouth to Southsea, BFG completed the route with determination, pride and teamwork, raising an incredible £3,130.

Duke of Edinburgh's Awards: Beyond steps

This year, the challenge returns with a renewed focus and a clear goal. Funds raised through the 2026 walk will directly support our group with equipment to take part in their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This nationally recognised expedition is a yearly staple in the Building Futures programme and instils an immense sense of independence and accomplishment.

Through volunteering, physical activity, skills development and teamwork, DofE gives our community of adults the chance to challenge themselves, set goals and celebrate what they achieve. The Summer Steps initiative serves to not only raise money for their journey, but a way to practise those all important DofE skills, like perseverance and teamwork.

For many of the adults we support, DofE is a huge achievement, but not always accessible without the right support. Your donations will help cover essential costs, remove barriers to participation and ensure that our adults can fully engage.

Through these exciting outdoor experiences, participants build confidence, form strong friendships, and learn to problem-solve, work effectively as part of a team... and that stays with them long after the journey ends. - Jessica Tracey, BFG Manager

The Summer Steps Challenge isn’t just about reaching a destination — it’s about supporting one another and showing what’s possible when the right opportunities are put in place. Every step taken and every pound donated helps us build brighter, more independent futures.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who chooses to support the Building Futures Summer Steps Challenge 2026. Whether you donate, share our page or cheer us on, you are helping BFG take meaningful steps towards the future.
