Tour de Char - fundraising for halow
Over April, May and June 2022, halow project supporter Charlotte has been cycling her very own Tour de Char! She's taken on the epic challenge to cycle 2000 miles, the equivalent of the Tour de France, all to raise money for halow.
Charlotte kindly shared with us why she has decided to take on this challenge:
"I normally like to sign up for a crazy cycle challenge of some kind yearly, not always for charity but this one was particularly crazy and the biggest yet. I like the focus and journey, to get to the challenge and the last two years this has been even more important and has kept me on a level in this rather crazy world.
I was meant to be riding the full Tour du France route (21 days) in June this year as part of a well-known event for another charity. I have been training for 18 months since August 2020, I had to pull out in January 2022 due to restrictions they put on the ride that I couldn’t meet.
I was pretty devastated and there have been many more bumps since then. I replaced the big ride with Cent cols Lombardy, which is 100 mountains, over 1000 miles in 10 days round the Lake Como area. I think this could be more challenging than the Tour de France route which at least had some flat bits, whereas this is 1000 miles of mountains. I’m pretty new to mountains. I've done a few but not 100 miles a day and Italian mountains are known to be much steeper. It's going to be a journey but then this last few months has taught be that its all about the journey.
Following the Tour de France theme, I created Tour de Char- 2000 miles equivalent of the tour but just in two months instead of one for halow as always. halow is a charity close to my heart."
