Racing stars take to the track for charity
It was fantastic to welcome halow supporters to our 10th and revamped Damon Hill Festival of Karting on Wednesday 21 June at Daytona Motorsport, Sandown Park. Drivers got the chance to challenge our charity’s patron, co-founder and former F1 world champion, Damon Hill, as well as racing against other legends and upcoming stars like Perry McCarthy, Johnny Herbert, and Ellis Spiezia. Through funds raised on the day and the services donated by our event supporters to create a refreshed experience, halow has benefitted from £20,000, which further pledged donations incoming!
Champions and runners-up
We must congratulate the teams for their hard fought podiums. P3 went to Ignition Racing and P2 to the Merry Pranksters. However, all the glory goes to the Apex Predators, whose team co-captain was upcoming Formula Women’s star Raj Kular
Other activities
During the day, there were many events taking place alongside the 2.5 hour Le Mans-style race. Zero Petroleum gave a demonstration of their exciting 100% drop in synthetic fuel. The fuel is carbon-neutral and made from simply just air and water. Plus, guest speakers gave insights into the world of racing. These included former race engineer to Kimi Raikkonen and TV pundit, Julien Simon-Chautemps; former engineer for Mercedes and McLaren, James Dorner; and former Top Gear producer, Jim Wiseman. This was alongside some very special vehicles on display including the Nissan RC90K which took pole at the 1990 Le Man race in the expert hands of Mark Blundell.

The auction
Bonhams | Cars held an auction perfect for racing collectors and fans. Lots included: a signed racing suit from 9 time race winner Mark Webber’s last season; gloves signed by Sir Lewis Hamilton; an Aston Martin cap signed by Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel; and tickets to both Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival – kindly donated by Bonhams. “It is always a privilege to be involved in such worthy causes” Malcom Barber, Chairman Emeritus at Bohnhams | Cars
