Our Favourite Things: A Creative Collaboration Between halow and SIME Gallery

This summer our incredible Building Futures CG group teamed up with Sime Gallery for an exciting new initiative, Our Favourite Things.

Over the course of 4 weeks, the group immersed themselves into the world of artistry, learning about Sidney Sime and using his artwork to inspire their own creative expression.

The project, based at the SIME Gallery in Worplesdon, encouraged the group to view the gallery and choose their favourite pieces of art. After exploring their thoughts surrounding the artwork, our group chose a piece to recreate in their own image. Each artwork reflected not only the original inspiration but also the personality, feelings, and creative vision of its maker.

Megan, our star editor.

The result? A beautiful magazine filled to the brim with the creative outpouring of our group. Megan, a talented member of the CG group, took on the role of Editor and smashed it! She worked closely with Haidee from Surrey Museums and Surrey Heritage, as well as halow staff, to design the publication, collected everyone’s contributions, and bring the final project together.

The artwork and Megan's publication showcases the phenomenal talent possessed by our supported adults when given the time and resources. Projects like Our Favourite Things show the power of partnership between community organisations. Our supported adults can achieve so much with the right opportunities and support.

"The supported adults worked incredibly hard throughout their project with SIME Gallery, using their creative imaginations to interpret the artwork of Sidney Sime. Haidee and Jan at SIME Gallery were incredibly supportive and encouraging to all involved and enabled a supportive, artistic environment for all involved!" - Ciara, CG Group Leader

Huge thank you to Haidee, Museum Engagement Officer with Surrey Museums Partnership, Jan Messinger at Sime Gallery, Surrey Museums, Surrey Heritage partnership and of course, our amazing CG group for making this possible.
