halow launches Building Destinations: A new pathway to employment

halow is proud to announce the launch of Building Destinations, an ambitious one-year employability programme specifically designed for adults aged 18–25. Set to begin in September 2026, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and the workplace by providing participants with the tools, confidence, and real-world experience needed to succeed in their careers.

Empowering the Next Generation

Building Destinations is more than just a training course; it is a comprehensive journey toward independence. Over twelve months, participants will engage in a curriculum that balances technical qualifications with the "soft skills" that modern employers value most, such as communication, teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving.

Key features of the programme include:

  • Work experience: Opportunities to try different roles within actual workplaces.
  • Recognised Qualifications: AQA Qualification and certificate by the end of the programme to provide a foundation for their resumes.
  • The Employment Passport: Each graduate will leave with a personalised CV and ‘Employment Passport’ that clearly validates their skills and achievements to prospective hiring managers.
  • Independent Travel Training: How to plan journeys and use public transport safely, ensuring they can travel confidently to and from work.

A Clear Path Forward

By the end of the one-year term, halow project ensures that every participant will not only be ready to apply for jobs but will also possess a clear, actionable plan for their future

David's Story

David joined halow in 2021 and began taking his first steps towards building his future.

Like many young adults, David faced several barriers when it came to finding a job. From struggling with confidence and feeling like he wasn’t always taken seriously, to navigating long online applications.

Reflecting on his time at halow, David says:

halow has been good to me. I’ve expanded my social circle and have new opportunities - David, halow supported adult

A pivotal moment in David’s journey came through halow’s employment support, which introduced him to Surrey Choices, and helped him with job applications and interview preparation.

Today, David works as a Cashier at Waitrose, a role he takes great pride in.

In his role, David enjoys working on the checkout, interacting with customers, and developing practical skills. Since starting work, he has become more independent and improved his planning, even balancing his job with regularly attending halow’s  Fit Club through our ARTGU programme.
