Damon Hill Karting Challenge 2022
We were thrilled to welcome drivers to our annual fundraising event, the Damon Hill Karting Challenge, on Wednesday 15 June at the Daytona Motorsport Track, Sandown. It was fantastic day, filled with sunshine, laughter, and of course, racing. The day was a huge success, raising a spectacular total of £17,120. This is a wonderful contribution to support halow project’s mission to support young people with a learning disability on their journey to independence.
Teams of up to five drivers took part in the Le Mans style endurance race. They also had the opportunity to meet Damon Hill OBE, patron and co-founder of the halow project, and race against him or with him in his team, as well as other professional drivers such as the original Stig from Top Gear, and GB4 championship driver Alex Walker. Alex has been a brilliant support to halow by raising awareness for our charity by having our logo on his GB4 racing car this season. Some halow young people also attended the event, getting to chat to the supporters taking part, as well as having fun at the track watching the racing and enjoying the sunshine.
halow’s Head of Fundraising and Communications, Rachelle Barnett shared, “'We were delighted to welcome 28 karting teams, drawn from among halow's brilliant corporate supporters and our many driving enthusiasts. We had a fantastic - if very hot - day, and the camaraderie and friendly rivalry at this event is what makes it such an enjoyable day. We are very grateful to all our drivers, and to our wonderful corporate volunteers from AXA XL Caitlin Services for supporting the trams throughout the day.”
We would like to extend huge gratitude to everyone that took part and helped on the day. The Damon Hill Karting Challenge is a well-loved fundraising event, which would not be possible without the support of the generous community around it.
There are plenty of other fundraising challenges and events coming up for halow project if you would like to get involved. If you are interested, please email fundraising@halowproject.org.uk.
