Buddies take part in London Landmarks Half Marathon
We are excited to share our support to two brilliant halow buddies taking part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday 3 April as part of our team of 14 runners fundraising for halow!
Louis Denison-Foster and Tim Spillman are currently busy training to take part in the event. The half marathon takes participants around the fantastic sights of the city on a safe, closed 13-mile route. They will run past iconic landmarks including; Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, the Gherkin, the Shard, the Tower of London and the London Eye.
Louis said “I’m doing this for halow because I joined in September and ever since I’ve kind of realised how much of a big impact it makes on the young adults, and even anyone working for the company and charity. You can see how much of an effect they have on everyone, and it means a lot to me and to other people around. I’ve got a sister with Downs Syndrome and it’s a scary thought adulthood, and to give these young adults the opportunity to go out there and do their own thing and follow what they want – it’s great. So, I thought it would be worthwhile putting my body through it and seeing if I can raise money for a good cause.”
Tim also shared his halow story and why he is taking part; “Running changed my life when I took it up again about 3 years ago. As an admittedly mostly self-inflicted bout with my asthma began to take over my life I decided I should probably do something about my physical and mental wellbeing. Getting good at running again showed me that a lot of the time, all you've got to do to improve your day slightly or make a change is get up and do something good for yourself.
Even before I joined halow I witnessed first-hand the real, long lasting and hugely positive impact of the organisation's work on not just young people, but their friends, families and loved ones in general. Then becoming a buddy this year gave me a further appreciation of the amazing community that makes up halow.
As someone with a brother who attends halow activities I think there is a huge incentive for making more people with less understanding of our members aware of exactly how important halow's work is to the lives of our young people. So, to be a part of this half marathon and knowing exactly what the money that we are working towards raising is going to is really the only incentive I need to get absolutely knackered and run 13 miles.”
We wish Louis and Tim all the best with the half marathon and would like to say a huge thank you for their outstanding fundraising support and work.
