Over 60 Unum colleagues plus spectators came together for a charity 5 a-side football tournament organised by Unum's  Fran Reynolds and Melissa Hookins and included a raffle to boost their fundraising.

As Fran said: “ We were super pleased that so many people got involved from across the business; including teams from Basingstoke, Dorking, Unum Dental and even the SOX Audit Team visiting from the US took part! There was true unity over the great game; we all thought we were semi-professional football players and there were more goals scored than in the World Cup.

The competition was fierce but the Basingstoke Claims team were worthy winners on the day. But the best result for me was the fact that we’ve raised over £3,400 for the Halow Project. A huge thank you to everyone who played and supported on the day, donated prizes and bought raffle tickets – this will make a real difference to our local charity.”

Goalie for Walker’s Wanderers: Katy Daniels received an unfortunate injury but still managed to enjoy the event: “My 5 minute spot in the limelight will never be forgotten!

Thank you to the HR team, Walkers’ Wonderers, who did an amazing job of both having my back and playing their best. The event was extremely well organised and I genuinely had fun up until the part when I broke my wrist!”

Claire Stockhausen joined the 2nd Line of Defence team after the Board meetings: “Well my legs have just about recovered but it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon/evening.

It was great to see so many people of different footballing abilities enjoying themselves at the Football tournament and supporting Halow. The support from the side-lines was brilliant and the standard of football on the pitches …. well let’s say no more.

There were lots of hotly contested matches and well done to Basingstoke Claims for winning. I look forward to putting on my astro boots again next year and thanks to Fran Reynolds, Melissa Hookins & team for all their efforts organising the event”. Clayton Holloway, Captain of the winning team shared his views:

“What an incredible day! Brilliantly organised and it was great to see people of all abilities taking part for such a great cause! As the only team from Basingstoke we knew it would be challenging, but against all odds we didn’t concede and came home undefeated. It was fantastic to see so many people turn up who weren’t playing but were there to support their colleagues and the charity. We would love to do this again sometime soon!”

Dan Flynn, Captain of No-one (finalists) added ‘The football tournament was a fantastic event, not only because my team were in the final but more importantly it was for a great charity. Fran and

Melissa did a great job at organising the whole event, I’m already looking forward to next year’s tournament.’

Fundraising Manager at Halow, Helene Williams thanked everyone for getting involved: ‘ “Well done to Francesca and her team for a great football tournament, at the Dorking Wanderers facilities.

Beautiful venue. It was an amazing afternoon, gorgeous sunshine, proper football and some dressed up teams! What a great fun atmosphere. Thank you for supporting Halow Project again, during this event. We are always delighted to receive such support and working closely with Unum is always a pleasure! Thank you for organising.”

A big thank you also goes to Dorking Wanderers Football Club, who helped with the running of the tournament and kindly hosted Unum at their new stadium in Dorking.
