We would like to congratulate Kyle, Darren and Gareth who have just completed the halow Peer To Peer programme - well done guys!
"I really enjoyed making the ice breaker game for Building Futures and I really enjoyed volunteering with the group"
Peer To Peer is a personal development programme aimed at young people who have experienced some of halow’s services and wish to join a mentoring scheme. With the help of a lead volunteer, they work through a year-long modular programme which takes place over the academic year. They are supported to improve their team building skills and build supportive relationships with one another. They have the opportunity to develop their social competence, communication skills and self-esteem. The modules help young people to develop their understanding of the working world and gain vital employment skills. They develop skills in organising and planning learning activities, working collaboratively with others, giving and receiving feedback and evaluating their own learning. They learn to understand the importance of self-development and working in a mutually beneficial environment that involves the sharing of knowledge, ideas and experience. As the course progresses through the year they are given the opportunity to volunteer with our Building Futures Group to put what they have learnt into practice supporting other young people. This aims to prepare them to be able to seek out and create their own volunteering opportunities and chances within the local community. They are able to develop their current abilities whilst learning new ones that will benefit themselves and the lives of those around them.
