Love halow and love yourself this Feburay!
February is known as the month of love and this love halow campaign will be focused on health and wellbeing. This February you can #lovehalow #loveyourself and help support young people with a learning disability live healthy and happy lives.
Charities, government and health professionals are breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health in society. With 1 in 4 people in the UK experiencing mental health issues, it’s paramount that we are aware of ways we can help ourselves and help others. Looking after your wellbeing is key to living happy and fulfilled lives.
40% of people with a learning disability experience mental health issues. In an ever demanding world, young people with learning disabilities are at an elevated risk of suffering not only mental health issues but physical health problems.
Navigating the everyday stresses of life can be hard for us all and young people with a learning disability often need extra support and guidance. Young people with a learning disability can experience isolation, low self esteem and a lack of opportunities. This can lead to a downward spiral causing a decline in mental and physical health problems.
By supporting #lovehalow this February we can provide vital support and guidance to young people in need. At halow we have a holistic approach to the care and support of halow young people. All programmes support young people in living happy, healthy and independent lives. Our programmes tackle mental health by facilitating social events, workshops and mentoring to help young people build long lasting supportive friendship groups in a safe environment. We work individually with all young people to help them gain skills and create opportunities allowing them to engage within the community, live independently and find employment. We focus on physical health by teaching young people how to maintain active and healthy lifestyles. By teaching young people how to cook and grow nutritious meals so they can be empowered to make healthy choices throughout life. Sports activities and gym clubs engage young people with the benefits of fitness and help them work towards personal goals of fitness as well as mental happiness. How can you get involved?
Get your valentines card- Visit White Stuff Guildford where from February 12 you can purchase cards handmade by halow young people. Visit their community board where you can leave a positive message about Guildford. The store with the most positive messages will donate £500 to their chosen charity!
Donate- you can show your love for halow by donating this February. As little as £5 can pay for a young person to participate in a social sports activity helping them to make friends, feel fit and feel happy. Why not donate instead of buying that valentines gift this year? Donate here
Why not keep giving the gift of love all year and set up a monthly direct debit to halow
Hold a wear pink day- Get your colleagues, school or club to show their love by donating £1 and wearing pink for the day.
Hold a bake sale- Hold a pink themed bake sale at work, school or even in your home.
Surrey Half 5k- Get healthy and happy this February by taking one of our places in The Surrey Half 5k! Challenge a friend or get a team of colleagues together and dust off those running shoes. The halow team will be cheering you along on the day! We suggest a minimum sponsorship of £150 which could pay for a young person to attend a series of fitness sessions for the year!
Sign up to your own challenge- Whether you love cycling, swimming, walking or want to try something new, you can make a difference. Get in touch and we can help you find a challenge near you! Simply giving up chocolate, alcohol or fizzy drinks can count as a challenge too.
Involve your community- Ask your gym, cycling club or school to get active and #lovehalow this February. Think Zumbathon, yoga or a sponsored cycle!
