More than 150 drivers took to the track in a 35-team challenge event, all vying for honours against professional drivers including Sam Bird, Jack Clarke and Josh Hill and celebrity drivers Heston Blumenthal and Rick Parfitt jnr as well as many business people.
A seriously competitive spirit was in evidence – especially when halow started offering ‘black flags in exchange for donations’. Immediately, the money came out and the bribes started to force the leading drivers into the pits for a 30 second time fault, of course all in an attempt to raise more funds for halow. Everyone took it in good spirit, close to an incredible £20,000 was raised at the event.
Our Patron,Damon Hill OBE, Formula One Champion in 1996, was on hand to give tips and strategy advice to the many generous business people who paid for a team and supported the event.
After the karting event, auctioneer Steve Mowbray from Radio Jackie and Radio Silverstone pumped up the crowd to bid for auction items which included tickets for The British Grand Prix, a tour of the Mercedes factory, signed racing suits, caps and gloves from Mark Blundell, Damon Hill, Lewis Hamilton as well as karting parties and race entries courtesy of Daytona Motorsport.
The Wine Reserve, Cobham, kindly provided the podium champagne.
Thank you to everyone who came and supported the event, without support like yours halow could not continue to support young adults with learning disabilities across Surrey.
