We would like to congratulate Evie, Sarah and Aimee who have just completed the halow Peer To Peer programme. Well done ladies!
Peer To Peer is a personal development programme aimed at young people who have experienced some of halow’s services and wish to join a mentoring scheme. With the help of a lead volunteer, they work through a year-long modular programme which takes place over the academic year. They are supported to improve their team building skills and build supportive relationships with one another. They have the opportunity to develop their social competence, communication skills and self-esteem. The modules help young people to develop their understanding of the working world and gain vital employment skills. They develop skills in organising and planning learning activities, working collaboratively with others, giving and receiving feedback and evaluating their own learning. They learn to understand the importance of self-development and working in a mutually beneficial environment that involves the sharing of knowledge, ideas and experience. As the course progresses through the year they are given the opportunity to volunteer with our Building Futures Group to put what they have learnt into practice supporting other young people.
halow staff gathered in the office to watch the girls' end of year project, a video about halow and the different services it provides. From organising interviews with staff to learning to use the video camera, the girls showed huge commitment to the project and they should be very proud of their achievements throughout the whole process. Everyone enjoyed watching it and we are even thinking about using the video for staff inductions in the future! After the video presentaton the girls were awarded with their certificates for completing Peer to Peer.
Sadly, the celebration was also lead volunteer Eileen's last day at halow. Eileen has helped improve the confidence of many young people since leading Peer to Peer in the last few years. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to Eileen and good luck for the future!
