Our Building Futures Group (BFG) is halow's intensive training and development programme for young people with a learning disability, aged 18-25.  The BFG supports young people to gain confidence and increase their ability to make informed choices about their future.

Working together with partner organisations the BFG provides life-skills training to prepare young people for independence – developing self-confidence, leadership and teamwork.

Each new BFG year we see new personalities and different dynamics, a group of 11 young people started their Building Futures journey in September and they have already achieved so much.

The group have been volunteering at Gosden House School who have extensive grounds to maintain and benefit hugely from the BFG's support. They have also been volunteering at Watts Gallery, Birtley House and with the Growth Team. Volunteering allows the group to develop new skills and work together to achieve something tangible that will help others.

"I would like to do more Growth Team on a Weds and more Birtley House. I enjoyed that" BFG participant.

The BFG group have been involved in some excellent sessions run by Surrey Outdoor Learning (SOLD) including canal boating, cooking on a fire, team games and canoeing. The group are often asked to feed back on their experiences what they like and don't like to ensure they are getting the most out of the programmes. They have lots of exciting ideas about what they would like to do, learn about and the places they would like to visit in the coming months so make sure you keep an eye out for what they have been up to!

"More Craggy Island on Friday and going on the canal boat more of the gym" BFG participant.
