The halow Social Group, for young people aged 18-35, offers a chance for members to take part in activities that can help them expand their social network. Since the beginning of this year we have run at least one activity a month, these have included; ten-pin bowling, a trip to the cinema, an evening at a local nightclub, watching the Guildford Flames ice-hockey team and a day at Brands Hatch.
In 2009 we took 20 people from the social group to the Womad Music Festival in Wiltshire in July. They were supported by 20 volunteers and staff. The cost of the entire trip came from halow and various fundraising activities. Other ideas considered for the future include a trip to Brighton, a theatre trip, a meal out and a Christmas party at the end of the year.
With the formation of a Youth Committee, run by the young people, it is hoped that they can begin to expand the activities on offer and enable them to lead the Social Group. We always welcome new members into the group.
