Support For The Young People You Work With

halow is committed to working in partnership with other organisations and professionals.  If you believe that a young person you are working with could benefit from the support and involvement with halow, please contact us and we will be happy to talk with you.

Social and Activities Groups

Young people with a learning disability can get involved with our social groups and activity days.  We provide support for different age groups.

16-19 Short Breaks Services:  Funded by Aiming High for Disabled Children monies, this service offers young people aged 16-19 the opportunity to get involved in regular activities and events, which not only give the young people a positive experience, but also allows parents and carers the chance to get a break from their caring role.  Our first weekend short break was a trip to the World of Music and Dance Festival WOMAD.

Social Group 18-35:  Founded by a young woman with Asperger's Syndrome who felt she was lacking opportunities for social interaction, this group has no eligibility criteria.  If there is a young person with a learning disability, no matter how mild, they can become involved.  Usually the costs of the activity will need to be met by the young person, however support staff are provided free of charge and transport will be arranged.  On many occasions, however, activities are paid for through donations, so there is no cost to the young person at all.

Activities include; Salsa class and girls night, first Monday of the month.  Cinema trips, nightclub visits, racing days and bowling amongst others.

For more information or to make a referral to these groups please contact Jason Butcher.

Brokerage

We provide brokerage and support planning services for young people undertaking the Self Directed Support Process.  These services are provided through our community interest company, and so are chargeable.  Please contact Yvonne Hignell for further information.

Buddies

We employ 'Buddies' to work with young people.

halow care is now registered as a Domiciliary Care Agency under the Care Quality Commission enabling us to provide personal care services.

The Buddies are employed to support young people to gain independence skills, access the community and attend work or college.  Again these services are chargeable and are available to self-funders and those in receipt of Personal Budgets or Direct Payments.

Partner

If you or your organisation or agency would like to become one of our partners, please contact us and we can arrange to add a link to your website.

General Information

All our Volunteers and Buddies hold a CRB Enhanced Disclosure, and undergo training relevant to their post.

We hold Insurances required to carry out the services as detailed above.
