Young people with a learning disability can get involved with our social groups and activity days. We provide support for different age groups.
16-19 Short Breaks Services: Funded by Aiming High for Disabled Children monies, this service offers young people aged 16-19 the opportunity to get involved in regular activities and events, which not only give the young people a positive experience, but also allows parents and carers the chance to get a break from their caring role. Our first weekend short break was a trip to the World of Music and Dance Festival WOMAD.
Social Group 18-35: Founded by a young woman with Asperger's Syndrome who felt she was lacking opportunities for social interaction, this group has no eligibility criteria. If there is a young person with a learning disability, no matter how mild, they can become involved. Usually the costs of the activity will need to be met by the young person, however support staff are provided free of charge and transport will be arranged. On many occasions, however, activities are paid for through donations, so there is no cost to the young person at all.
Activities include; Salsa class and girls night, first Monday of the month. Cinema trips, nightclub visits, racing days and bowling amongst others.
